Haute Right Now // Part II

I hope you all like my first installment of 'Haute right now' featuring Versace, Christian Dior, Giambatista Valli and Chanel's couture collections from this week. I'm going to continue with the capsule reviews of the collections that were featured later on in the week and I hope you like looking at them as much as I do! Couture really excites me and I would die happy if I ever got to wear an outfit as magnificent as some of the ones featured, a girl can dream!

Armani Prive

Everything about this Armani collection oozed ease and opulence. Tailoring was wide legged and loose fitting, and there was layer upon layer of frothy light fabrics and lace. The collection was more 50 shades of nude, with entire outfits made out of different shades of nude to add tone and texture, with a flash of black every now and then. All materials were shimmery, reflective or adorned with beading and appliqué of some sort, often dresses finished with exuberant fur wraps and jackets, a bit of a nod to the extravagance of the 1920's, almost a present day Great Gatsby wardrobe that Daisy herself would be proud to be seen in.

Alexander Vauthier

Compared to other couture collections, this is quite understated; no froth, no fluff and very little sparkle, but the collection has a very contemporary and edgy vibe, I can imagine Fashionistas and Urbanites snapping these outfits up straight away. There's crisp tailored suits and skirts with asymmetric detailing; a running theme throughout the collection, thigh high slits and corsets on show underneath magnificent fur coats. Very much wearable, modern approach to couture for the everyday socialite.

Elie Saab

When you fall in love with an outfit, you want to buy it in every variant possible; this is what I want to do with this collection! There were strapless, plunging necklines and column dresses each available in the 4 jewelled colour options of ruby, jade, sapphire and opal. Understated appliqué and embroidery was key here, being glamorous but effortless. The dresses and jumpsuits were fabricated out of flowing sheer lace as well as lustrous silks and satins, adding variety between dresses of the same colour group. This collection will be heading from the red catwalk straight to the red carpet, each look as stunning and timeless as the last. The balance of extravagant but wearable couture has been achieved.

Jean Paul Gaultier

You can always rely on JPG to take couture literally and go all out with his design concepts. The models were taking a trip on the wild side with animal print galore, everything that could have animal print incorporated did, including hairstyles! thrown into the mix were rubber look jackets in bold colours, structured tailoring and a hint of oriental styling, very much the extroverted collection! with all the animal print and fur, a modern day Cruella DeVil would be in her element.

I hope you have had fun divulging into the world of couture as much as I have! What is your favourite collection? My personal favourite has to be Elie Saab hands down, they have been my favourite for seasons so it's not a surprise really! I think their collections are the epitome of modern couture; decadent and beautifully crafted but very very wearable and commercial; well if you are lucky enough to be able to afford one anyway! I'll make do with drooling over the gowns for now on the Vogue website!
