Marketing | Dove 'Choose Beautiful' Campaign

Dove has launched another powerful campaign to help challenge our ideals on beauty and self-confidence. The 'Choose Beautiful' campaign was filmed across five different countries and women were asked to rate their appearances and walk through a door labelled 'Average' or 'Beautiful'. What this powerful campaign highlights is that feeling beautiful is a choice that all women should be able to make - and that if you have the power to feel beautiful, nobody else should be able to change that.

Life Post-Dissertation - My New Outlook

Remember me? Vaguely know who I am? Yes that's right, I'm that blogger who has disappeared for months on end with only a few many moany tweets to speak for. As many of you already know, final year smacks you in the face with a mountain of work that you can't seem to escape from, pretty much since January I have been working solidly on my assignments as well as my dissertation. I know many people manage to blog alongside their final year work, but I'm not one of those amazing multi-taskers, especially if I don't have enough time to do everything properly. I wanted to give myself the best possible chance to get the grades I want, so that meant cutting anything out that could distract me or take up too much time that I could better use for my assignments. It also meant I left my job, I was only on a temporary contract which ended in January - but when they offered me an extension until March, I decided to decline due to the amount of work I needed to do within those months, and looking back I think I made the right decision.

The past three months have been non-stop, as soon as one assignment was done it was time to move onto the next one; I'm not going to lie, it's been pretty intense and stressful. All day, every day has been spent on my laptop or in the library, with uni work on my mind from the moment I wake up until I go to sleep. But last Wednesday, I finally regained my freedom as it was dissertation hand-in day! I have never been so excited and relieved to hand some work in. I now only have two exams in May standing in the way of me *finally* finishing my course, I can finally see the end of the tunnel and it is such a good feeling!

I feel that I have really neglected myself these past few months, having devoted every spare minute to doing my work - literally I looked and felt like Penny when she was addicted to her computer game. Now I think is the best time to pull myself together and organise my life now I have the time to do so. I thought I'd create a list of the things I wanted to do and achieve over the next few months that I have been putting on hold until I had more time. Hopefully writing this list will help me stick to it as well and help to motivate me!

Fashion | Pantone Colour of the Year 2015 - Marsala

For a number of years, the world renowned colour authority Pantone has announced a Colour of the Year which they predict to be the 'go-to' colour amongst the fashion and interior design community over the following 12 months. After the success of the 2014 Colour of the Year Radiant Orchid - a captivatingly bright fuchsia/purple shade, I couldn't wait to see its' successor. Late last year, Pantone announced the Colour of the Year 2015 as Marsala, described as "a naturally robust and earthy wine red - a hearty, yet stylish tone which is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors." I, like many others, voiced their skepticism of Marsala as the Colour of the Year when it was first announced, but I have to say I have been warming up to this rich wine shade since then, now I've seen the use of Marsala on the catwalk and it slowly diffusing down into current high street collections..

Although some of the sales started pre-Christmas, now is the opportune moment to do a spot of sale shopping as many brands and companies are reducing a lot of their prices even further! It's the perfect time to pick up some fashion and beauty bargains ready for the new year. I love shopping the sales (even though it's more window shopping this time round), so I thought I'd put my time to good use and create this edit of some of the best bargains still available to shop from the comfort of your own home - no venturing out in the cold, no huge crowds and no need to get out of your pyjamas, win win!

Fashion // Hints & Tips for Placement Year Applications

If you are currently studying fashion, whether that be marketing, buying or design related (amongst others), you will most likely have a work placement or placement year option included in your course. As many of you know, I study International Fashion Marketing at MMU and have just gone onto my final year after completing my placement year as a Buying/E-Commerce Assistant. I thoroughly enjoyed my time on placement and I'm sure your lecturers have already started drilling into you how important it is for you to gain a placement year - especially if you have just started your second year. Not only will it give you an insight into a job/company you may want to pursue a career with, it will also give you a heads up on the game with vital experience and contacts once you are looking for a graduate job. I must state that not everyone will get a placement year or decide to take one in the first place; that doesn't mean you are doomed to never find a job once you have graduated, I know many people on my course who have just graduated without taking the placement year option and have already gained jobs in the industry. It's not the be all and end all, but I would recommend it so you can experience not only the application process but also various job roles to give you a better idea of what you want to do, or not do once you graduate. I've decided to write this blog post to give my hints and tips to make the application process a lot easier for yourselves, to help take away some of the stress and to make sure you are fully prepared. Even if you don't have a placement year as part of your course, some of these tips can also be applied to help you find some short term/ part time work experience with a company or an internship during the holidays.

Fashion // Little Black Dress Collection Launch

The little black dress is the ultimate fashion staple; a timeless, stylish and iconic piece that appears in virtually every woman's wardrobe. As Karl Lagerfeld said: "One is never over-dressed or under-dressed with a little black dress", Although the styling has changed over time, LBDs remain a girl's best friend due to the versatility and glamorous allure that proves perfect for almost every occasion. A few weeks ago,  Little Black Dress invited me along to the launch of their very own collection that naturally features a selection of the most gorgeously designed LBDs. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend in the end, but I still couldn't resist sharing the new collection with you! With an abundance of styles that are ideal for the upcoming party season, you won't be disappointed with Little Black Dress' new collection.
